Mount Holly is the large and spacious home of Philippa Gordon and her family, located in Bolingbroke, Nova Scotia.
Description[]
Philippa Gordon, a supposed only child, lived at Mount Holly during the first 22 years of her life. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon, wealthy Bluenoses, allowed her to hold many parties. At these parties the house literally overflowed with Phil's friends and beaux.
Physical appearance[]
Mount Holly was said to be very large, and as it was the home of a wealthy Bluenose family, it was probably furnished very lavishly and with good taste.
Age[]
The age of Mount Holly is unknown. It is likely, however, that it was built sometime before 1865 (when Philippa was born).
Behind the scenes[]
- Mount Holly does not play an important part in the Anne series. However, Anne Shirley did visit the home via the request of her friend, Philippa Gordon. She enjoyed the fortnight there spent during summer vacation in Anne of the Island.
