World War IEdit
Miller fought in World War I, returning home without a leg.
Miller had been courting Mary Vance, although Cornelia Elliott was opposed to him. Miller and Mary married after his return, and set up house with Miller storekeeping. He was not afraid of Mary's sharp tongue, and admired her weird eyes.
Miller is a male given name of Old English origin, it means one who grinds grain and was very popular in late 19th century.
