Greetings, kindred spirit! I'm SusannahWithAnH, one of the admins on this wiki. I will edit pretty much anything, but I prefer to stick to behind-the-scenes stuff like categories, templates, images and the like. If you've got any questions, you can leave a message for me. If you're from another wiki or Anne site, you can also request affiliation here. I'm here almost every day, so I'll try and get back to you as soon as possible. Cheers!

  • I´m sorry about wrong Jem´s picture. I really thought that it was Jem´s picture, because on lmm-anne.net was that picture in article about Jem. I thought he had different hair, because it was bad quality of scans.

But it was better than in the past. Originally that picture was in article about Walter. But Walter had black hair and he reads a lot.

    Again, I´m so sorry.

    • Actually, I would but I can't. :( The only books that people are allowed to put up on the Internet to read for free are the ones whose copyrights have expired, i.e. they are free to copy. That means about fifty years after the book is published in the US or something, I don't know what it is where I live (Australia) or where you live, but The Road to Yesterday was only published in 1974, so unfortunately I can't put it online without possibly getting sued. The same with The Blythes Are Quoted. So, sorry :( I haven't read the book either, but it was published where I live so I'll try to get hold of it in the library or something.

    • OK, never mind. I live in Slovakia and there weren´t published these books: Jane of Lantern Hill, Kilmeny of the Orchard, Emily´s Quest, Magic for Marigold, Pat of Silver Bush, Mistress Pat, The Doctor´s Sweetheart, Along the Shore, Blythes are Quoted and The Road to Yesterday.

In my country is it like in yours. But I´m not sad. Next year I propably will go to my cousin in Canada, so I will try to buy some of those books.

  • Hi there! I have a [littlehouse.wikia.com wiki] that would like to affiliate with this one! Please check it out, it's kinda small, but most of the users are nice, and we need some help getting more! Thanks for your time =) -{{SUBST:User:Ducksplash/Sig}} 20:08, June 3, 2012 (UTC)

    • I've actually visited your wiki before and it looks pretty good (even bigger than this one), so I think I'd be glad for us to be affliates. Your wiki looks like its got more users than this one -- this one really needs them. I've added a link to your wiki on the main page of this one, and will post a blog post about yours, so maybe if you could do the same that would be good? If you've got any problems, or want something else, or want something different, just tell me about it! I'm not sure what else affliates do on Wikia, as this wiki's never had any before. And thanks for bothering to stop by :)

  • Do you think that Richard Keith was more of a family brother/cousin or brother in-law to Mrs. Keith? Mrs. Keith could have referred to him as her brother as in brother in-law or good friend. It would make more sense for him to be her brother in-law than to be a brother with the same married surname. It has never been mentioned with a possesive adjective that he is her brother. The book only states that she has a brother in British Columbia. He doesn't seem to be close with her. She was closer with Marilla than she was with him.

  • What does succintness mean? On Richard Keith's page?

      Loading editor
    • In that case, it means just to make things simpler -- instead of saying Mary has a brother-in-law in British Columbia every time, you just say May has a brother in British Columbia. Hope that helps. :)

  • Ginny can you do something about the renaming vandalism? I call it vandalism (although it seems they don't know any better: they know to write explainations for edits, although their explanations also seem unreasonable) because LilyLacreag sent them a reminder and either they didn't know to read it or ignored it. It's annoying and as soon as anyone corrects it, it's reverted to the old ones. Additionally the errors become hard to keep track of once they edit a sentence in a different article. Such as "Stella Maynard was one of Anne Blythe-Shirley's friends and resident of Patty's Place". This edit was hard to notice as it is actually in the article and could be hidden in it or in the infobox.

  • Before, I wrote that Richard Keith could actually be Mary Keith's brother in-law. Another similar case in the story is at the beginning. Marilla told Robert Spencer, Mrs. Spencer's brother  about adopting a boy. If Mrs. Spencer is married, then how could he be her brother? Maybe they addressed people like that back then.

  • I see that you added "first appearance" brackets into the articles. I think it's useful, but I think articles look better without it. I hope, everyone understands that the first book in the column is the one with first appearance.

I searched other big "Book Wikis" and I found that only Harry Potter wiki also has these brackets (but they are written with smaller font).

The Chronicles of Narnia wiki has "(book, appearance) or (book, mentioned)" and it looks strange.

And oher wikis (including Twilight, Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings and more) don't have first appearance - only the name of the book (plus mentioned).

    • You're right, the first appearance stuff isn't needed since it should be obvious which came first. Remove them if you like; I only added them because I was adding links to image categories, and got sidetracked. Also, this wiki is partly based on the Harry Potter Wiki, so that's probably where i got it from. Thank you :)

    • Thank you for your reply. I thought that you have inspiration from HP wiki, because I know that you are big fan of Harry Potter (me too).    : )

  • Hi, Ginny!

I see that you have changed Appearances system. Now it is sorted to many categories, but I think that old system was better. It was more simple with film appearances. Also, I think that book appearances looks better than in books, in short stories etc. (But it's only my opinion.) It means that I have to change characters' appearances again. (I am adding links to 1952 and 1972 TV series at the moment.) These new appearances also make the article longer.

And also episodes. I've seen episodes written with quotes a many TV series wikis. It looks strange for me, but I'll respect this. But I don't agree with names of short stories with quotes. I think we should write them with italics. We have names of books and film with italics and short stories are similar to them.

    • I don't know how I missed this message. You seem to have already got what I would like, but for the record, here's what I think:

Films and TV series are two different things. Plus, there are so many films and TV series called 'Anne of Green Gables' that it's very easy for people to get confused, particularly if they're new to Anne and have just come to this wiki to find out more. I'm talking about people who are less familiar with the films and TV series than we are. It would be confusing to have too many things called 'Anne of Green Gables', with only the year they were made in in brackets to tell the difference.

But I would prefer the TV series section to be called 'TV series appearances' or 'Television series appearances' rather 'Appearances in TV series' or 'Appearances in television series'. It fits better with the other sections. The same with the short story section. And since films and TV series are different, they should have the same heading level (not have one Heading 3 and one Heading 4). The same with books and short stories.

    • I changed appearances a few hours after I wrote this topic and you was right with TV appearances. I can change them again (if you like more TV appearances than Appearances in TV series).

  • I noticed that Prissy Andrews directs to Priscilla, should we move Teddy Phillips to Theodore Phillips then?

      Loading editor
    • In the book it actually says Priscilla's full name when Mr. Phillips writes a poem to her. Matthew also says Mr. Phillips name, Teddy, which isn't his nickname, because Matthew doesn't know him well enough to call him by a nickname. Theodore might only be used for the  Etymology secton. It's a real name and might sound funny, but that's what people in Avonlea call him. Previously Gertie Pye's page directed to Gertrude. Since we could not find any evidence, we corrected it with Gertie and put Gertrude in the etymology section.

        Loading editor
    • Teddy is version of Theodore and Ted. We don't know what is his real name.

Gertie and Josie... I thought that their real names were Gertrude and Josephine, but Gertie and Josie are real names. I think that in 19th century, Josephine and Gertrude were more common names than Gertie and Josie.

    • I guess even though we know the longer names that these short names derive from, it is possible that parents may have simply given them the longer names to begin with.

Kind of like you could actually name a kid 'bob' instead of 'robert' and bob merely being a nickname.
