  • Hi,

I have upload the German Cover of the book Rainbow Valley and put it in the Gallery: Rainbow Valley, but I don't see the tab "German" in the page.

Did I do something wrong or can you see the Image?

    • It works now. :) The thing is that you edited the main gallery (Gallery:Rainbow Valley) before you created the German gallery. The main gallery page usually refreshes itself, but it wasn't that case today and the page needed to be refreshed manually for the link to work. (Next time just click on the Edit button, don't edit anything and then click on the Publish button.)

  • Hi LL,

sorry for the add of images in the articles about Ruby Gillis and Hopetown asylum. I didn't know that the images don't are allowed :( and I find articles with images more beautiful.

What I don't understand: The article Dora Keith has an image. Is this allowed? If so, why?

    • Hi Klap Trap,

that's a new rule (not really sure if the word "rule" is accurate) we agreed on with Susannah this summer. That's why some of the Books universe pages now don't contain the information on their adaptation appearances, pictures from adaptations or portrayal section. You can still find it on special Study pages (e.g. Study:Anne Shirley). I'm not really sure if we ever announced it here, but this is what Susannah wrote me when she got the idea:

"I've been thinking about how to arrange information in articles better. Right now, the original Anne Shirley article has a "Portrayal" section in BTS that contains ALL portrayals, even though this article now refers to only the books universe version. The "Gallery" heading also contains images of many portrayals. Now, I like this comparison of pictures of different Annes, but I don't think it should go on an article dedicated to the book version of Anne. I would like to create a page, probably called "Study:Anne Shirley/Portrayal", that contains this gallery and the complete list of portrayals of Anne from the BTS section. But articles for a specific universe should only contain info relating to that universe.

I also think the "Appearances" section at the end of each in-universe article should only contain appearances relating to that universe (like on "Anne Shirley (Green Gables Fables)". Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense. So everything that appears in more than one universe should have a corresponding Study:XXX/Appearances page eventually."

When it comes to your other question... well, every Books universe character/location/whatever that appeared in ANY adaptation (for example, only in Books and Akage no An like Ella May MacPherson) should have their own gallery and study page with list of appearances (in Ella's case, list of books and Akage no An episodes she appeared in) and portrayal section (list of all live-action/voice/stage actors with galleries).

The thing is that the Books universe pages SHOULD have their own Gallery and Study pages, but only few of them already have their own. That's becuase we are only people and we haven't had much time to do that yet. (I had a job, then I went to France and this week I moved to Prague. Susannah is focusing on her exams right now.) I'll try to make those pages as soon as possible, right after I finish updating the appearances pages we already have. Stay tuned for updates!

EDIT: Don't worry, we love pages with pictures too, but as we agreed on creating pages for numerous universes, the pictures from adaptations should be there. Also, with so many universes, it may be unfair to choose a picture for Anne, Gilbert or anyone else as one user may prefer the Sullivan films, the other may prefer anime and the last one may prefer something completely different. This should be fair to everyone. :)

  • Hi there! I know the new Anne of Green Gables show will be premiering in 2017 and I wanted to help out in any way I can. I could to do this in multiple ways such as creating a new background skin and adding relevant information to the Character, Works, and Portal sections of the wiki. Anything and everything I change and/or add is subject to your approval of course.

I also wanted to let you know that currently the wikia polls aren't working on mobile. We know that they are a great way to survey the community so we recommend replacing them with another mainpage unit. Pollsnacks is super easy to incorporate and I can change it for you if you like.

Let me know if my helping out would be something that you and the community might be interested in. :)

    • Hi!!!

It's so nice to meet you. I'm currently in France on holiday, but I can still find some time to communicate with you. I'm really glad that we have a volunteer for the 2017 TV series, it's actually amazing. Of course, we appreciate your offer to help us. When the show premieres, we will need pages for characters, places, episodes, galleries, transcripts, etc. You could help with that, if it's okay. You might have noticed that there are manu different universes based on AoGG (etc. Books, Sullivan, BBC) and we have different colour combinations for them, as well as for the upcoming CBC universe. We are thinking about changing the background picture to a better one, but I'm not really sure if we should put there the new universe - as I said, there are many universes and it would be unfair to the other ones if we feature only one. I definitely want to watch the show and it would be easier for me now that they announced the Netflix release.

I don't know about the polls, but you can discuss it with Susannah. :)

(Sorry for possible mistakes, I'm writing in hurry on my phone.)

      Have a nice day!

    • Hi again! Okay so I went ahead and changed the background just until we get more images for the upcoming CBC universe. I also created a new poll using Pollsnacks and created a new page to archive the previous poll. For future polls, I created this How-to Guide to help you make the switch! http://bit.ly/2cPq8xh Let me know if you like it or if I need to make changes. Let me know what you think or if you need anything changed/edited. :)

  • Just a little thing I've been considering lately. Currently, we use the {{!}} template (which can also be written as {{bar}}) to separate entries on navbox templates. But this means we also have to manually put in line breaks (<br/>). However, on the HP wiki, they use a middot in between entries instead. The plus side of using this dot ({{,}}) is that it is less obtrusive and we don't have to manually put in line breaks, which can leave a lot of white space on either side of the text, depending on how wide your screen is. I want to convert all our navbox templates to this design. It's not a big change, and I was going to change over the templates anyway, but I'd like your opinion first. :)

    • I was trying to sort out my thoughts on this and here's my answer. I went to the HP wiki to see how the navbox templates look like and I get the point. I have to admit I like the system we use now. We can change the symbol which separates entries from "bar" to dot, if you want, that's not a big deal. However, the HP Wiki dot is not very visible and is easy to miss - what about the one they use on Once Upon a Time Wiki? (http://onceuponatime.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Episodes)

When it comes to the line breaks, well, I prefer using them. The templates on HP Wiki are basically one long line and the entries are not displayed well. The whole templates look really messy and chaotic, one entry begins is often split into two lines and it can be difficult to find what you're looking for. By using line breaks we avoid spliting the entries and the templates look neat. I may be wrong, but the white-background-part-of-the-page should look the same on other computers, even with another screen width (writing from my own experience). The only thing that changes, is the Anne-and-Gilbert background photo so the templates should look the same. In case they change somehow and there is too much of white space... well, it still would look better with too much of white space than no white space at all - which may happen if we stop using line breaks.

    • I got the idea because previously (before I edited them), templates that generally went on wide pages, like galleries or study notes, had really wide lines of text that did not fit properly when viewed on a smaller screen, like looking at the full site on a mobile. This is because when the screen is small, then the rail on the right gets shoved underneath the main body instead of beside it, to suit the narrow screen. I don't really mind split entries (we did it for one of the really long episode names on the GGF templates). Anyway, I just thought it might look better and be a bit easier than manually making all the entries even. But it's a small change and of course we don't have to do it.

        Loading editor
    • Not really sure what to do about that. I know that the templates for galleries and study notes looked bad on the Portal page as it isn't that wide. I might get used to the spliting entries into two lines (I know about the GGF episode, but there was no other option), however, my biggest fear is that the first line of any template would be completly full without any white space and the second line would have 7 words and a lot of white space as the next word would be in the next line - only because of its lenght. You cannot trust computers and it's possible that the templates would not look good.

I get your point with the good mobile experience, but... there are many things that probably don't display well on mobile, not just the templates. :)

  • (re your recent edits) My goodness, I must have been half asleep while editing those pages! Mass conversion/editing is always tedious (I know you know), and there are always things that slip through, so it's great to have a second pair of eyes to rely on. :)

I've added the proposed universe colours to my notes page, if you'd like to have a look. I was thinking red for Ana of California, brown for Breakthrough Entertainment and turquoise for the new Anne TV series. When I was picking colours last year, I tried to have them sort of suit the adaptation (I think you did, too). For example, blue for Sullivan animated matches the blue on Anne's dress, and light green for PGG is because of their logo. So if not the brown here, we could have a different brown or green that goes with the poster for L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, or a more brownish red for Ana of California.

    • It's OK, don't worry. I make mistakes too when I edit too much or too quickly. :) I literally stared for 5 minutes at the amount of edits you'd done and I was like: "Oh my God, Susannah must've had a lot of coffee." I checked some of them just to know what you added or changed. I immediately knew that those pages were wrong, I mean, I've spent much time working on different editions and galleries and I just remember some of the different titles.

I think you chose the perfect combinations "colour-universe". ;) It will work well, I believe. I corrected one of the colours on your Notes page, hope you don't mind. :) I also moved the AoC universe - now the universes are in chronological order.

  • Hello LilyLacreag,

I just wanted to ask if this wiki (while focusing on material related to the Anne books or adaptations) was amenable to creating pages for content (more) specific to Road to Avonlea (by which I mean pages like for episodes of the series or characters)? There are some characters who appear in the Kevin Sullivan animated series as well (like Felix and Felicity King), though other content may only appear in Road to Avonlea with no actual connection to the Anne stories beyond taking place in Avonlea.

    Thank you.

    • Yes, definitely! After all, it is from the same universe as the 1985 film and even several Anne-characters appear in it. However, we have pages only for 5 RtA episodes and only few characters. My current goal is to create pages for remaining 24 episodes of Kon'nichiwa Anne: Before Green Gables. Unfortunately, I don't have enough free time as the whole process of creating page for ONE episode takes at least 2 hours. (That includes watching the episode, marking character appearances and voice cast, finding images and uploading info on IMDb and Wiki.)

I'm planning to watch RtA episodes after that as I'm not familiar with them. Creating pages for RtA is much easier, but until you showed up here, we didn't have many editors and it was almost clear that I would have to create them.

Feel free to add the episodes, characters or whatever else you want. I'm here in case you need something. :)
