  • Hi, Ginny!

I finished making 7 templates for Road to Avonlea episodes a few minutes ago. I hope you would like them. :) I tried to make them with "show-hide" button (I've seen it at this episode template on Once Upon a Time wiki and it was inspiration and primary source for creation our new templates.), but I can't make them with it. If you know how to do it, you can edit those templates. I've also tried to make this template - the hybrid of our 7 templates, however, it didn't work.

    • Oh, you're an absolute legend. The templates look gorgeous now. The only one of your colours I didn't change was for the Season1 template, because it fitted nicely. In fact, the Season6 template was the only one I had trouble choosing a colour for, so I'm glad you fixed it. One little thing: I think the pictures would look better on the left rather than the right (that's what I originally planned, but it didn't work out). But it's no big deal – I'll do it now. :D

    • Thank you. :) I think we created together amazing templates. They look great now.

  • I just edited two poorly done articles and I don't even know if they contain fact.

      Loading editor
    • I think they're episodes of Road to Avonlea, which means that they fit in Kevin Sullivan's universe along with his Anne of Green Gables films. Of course they need fixing up, so I'll see what I can do.

    • They exactly ARE episodes of Road to Avonlea. I edited one of episodes few minutes ago. I found the inspiration for it on Once Upon a Time Wiki and Vampire Diaries Wiki. So I've used Infobox Episode and added few sections with Heading 2 - I chose the order I see on OUaT Wiki - Summary, Plot, Cast, Quotes and Behind the scenes  (names Summary and Plot are from VD wiki). I've also added Gallery section and External links.

        Loading editor
    • I also changed the colour of Infobox Episode - from blue to green. I used summary from AvonleaGuide.com, because the first one was really bad. :) However, I think we sholud write plot - not copy everything.

  • For etymology, do we reallt need to write if the name is a female/male name? A female name in one culture could be a male name in another culture.

      Loading editor
    • Etymology section is inspirated by English Wikipedia. You can find it written this way: Miriam is an ancient female given name/Mary is a feminine given name... In our case, we have only one (fe)male name - Leslie.

  • I see you uploaded images from book covers of Anne of Ingleside and Rainbow Valley. I know it's better when we have image of someone's face, not whole body. But there is a problem with Anne covers that people are too small and it's difficult to make them bigger and also achieve sharp image.

That's why I think we should add images of whole body or head and torso if there is no other possibility. Because pictures you've uploaded are too smudgy. And when we add them into infoboxes, they are bigger and more smudgy. It's better when we have sharp images.

I've changed image of Nan in her infobox - because the new one is more sharp and because there were opinions that the girl in pink isn't Nan. I also changed the image of Ingleside. Old image was too small and smudgy. I added new one - with Anne and her children, because it looks better. I hope you would like my changes - I think articles look better with good-looking images.

    • All right, fair enough :)

    • Also, I changed Walter's picture to get one without that white curl which is part of the Rainbow Valley title, but realised after I added the picture that it looked terrible. :) I took it from the Finnish cover of Rainbow Valley, so that's why it didn't have a white curl. But that meant the picture was much lower quality, so in the end it wasn't better after all!

        Loading editor
    • I saw that and it looked really strange. :D I agree with that white curl but I didn't find the Finnish cover in better quality. I like their covers so much... :)

  • Thank you for finishing Bantam Books covers. I was searching for them yesterday and I found three types of covers. I didn't know which type is the first, second and third. I was near madness. :)

I made a view for all those Bantam covers. You can find it there.

The first type has logo of Bantam Company in the left. Next type (probably the second, because there is the same cover of Anne of Green Gables) has coloured strip with title of Bantam Starfire and its logo. It was probably reprint of first edition. I'm not sure because I didn't find years of publication. The third type has title of Bantam Classic written with black (or white) letters. It was probably published after Bantam Starfire, because cover of Anne of Green Gables is changed - cover with Megan.

    • I was very confused too. You're not alone! :) It helped that I have the first seven books (Anne of Green Gables through to Rainbow Valley) in the 1998 Bantam editions, so on the copyright page there's information about previous Bantam printings and such. Only there wasn't any mention at all of Bantam Starfire there. So I'm still slightly muddled, but we're getting there. :)

        Loading editor
    • So I'm not alone! :) But you have 1998 Bantam books with some informations - I haven't. I searched through the internet yesterday and I found different informations. Book with Megan and date 1982 - which isn't possible. So I decided to make that image and if someone knows dates of publication, please, write us. :)

I'll upload images Starfire covers (Anne of Green Gables/the Island/Ingleside).

I found only dates of publication of Chronicles of Avonlea and Further Chronicles of Avonlea (this one is Bantam Classic edition). One girl wants to sell them and she photographed covers and informations inside of book. You can see them there: Chronicles of Avonlea and Further Chronicles of Avonlea.

    • Referring to the cover with Megan Follows that was supposedly published in 1982 -- I think that date refers to the Starfire edition, which was (probably) published earlier. I've only seen the earliest date, which is 1976 for Anne of Green Gables, in my copy, not anywhere on the internet. Most dates I see on the internet refer to either the Starfire or Classic editions, not the original. Of course, this tends to make results rather skewed.

        Loading editor
    • I found book with year of publication 1976 - and it (probably) is the book we marked as first edition. It is on Goodreads (click here). However, cover with Megan has there year 1982. I'm still searching for Starfire dates.

Edit: I've found Megan cover on Amazon and date of publication - 1987! (click here) and also that Bantam Starfire Anne of GG was published in 1982 (this information was on many different sites).

  • Hi Ginny,

I stumbled across your wikia today in a Google search and was very much entranced. L.M. Montgomery's books are some of my favorite works of literature and have been for over 20 years.

Your site is fantastic and I can see myself spending hours reading through the articles and perusing the content. However, I noticed something in one of your "Did You Know" items I wanted to bring to your attention.

The item states that Anne was the first female school teacher in Avonlea as well as the first female to attend university from Avonlea. This is incorrect. In Anne of Green Gables, one of the teachers at Avonlea school was Miss Stacey, who was a big inspiration to a young Anne. Also, in Anne of Avonlea, it states that Anne's predecessor at Avonlea school was also female.

My apologies for being such a stickler for facts. Thanks for all your hard work in putting together a very enjoyable site.

    Thanks,

    Geographee

    • Oh my gosh. How could I have missed such a ghastly mistake? *facepalm* Thanks for the heads up. No idea where I got that ridiculous idea from ... maybe a late night when I went temporarily brain dead. And thanks so much for the compliments; however, the site is not all my own! It's an editable site the same way Wikipedia is, and you yourself can change articles if you want to, just by clicking the edit button next to each article title :) I just happen to be one of the admins here, because I love Anne and LMM so much and am eternally fascinated about everything Anne. Thanks again for the tip.

    • Anne is the first female from Avonlea to go to Redmond.

        Loading editor
    • Of course, she was the first woman from Avonlea who attended Redmond, but she wasn't the first female teacher in Avonlea.

However, she could be the first female teacher FROM Avonlea who taught IN Avonlea (Miss Stacy was from other village, I think). But we don't have informations about unnamed teacher who taught there after Miss Stacy and about teachers who taught there before Mr. Philips.

  • Thank you for uploading it. I'm really excited and I always wanted to read the deleted scenes. I've read it and I found an interesting fact. The same quote in Anne of Windy Willows and in Anne of Ingleside.

In Anne of Windy Willows, Valentine mentioned her cousin Noble Courtaloe who was probably buried alive:

"We were always a little afraid he was buried alive; he looked so life-like. But nobody thought of it till it was too late."

In Anne of Ingleside, Miss Cornelia mentioned her cousin Mr. Chase who was probably buried alive:

"You see, we were always a little afraid her husband was buried alive... he looked so life-like. But nobody thought of it until it was too late."

I think, Montgomery wrote it to Anne of Ingleside because her editor deleted it in previous book.

    • Wow! I never noticed that. That's just wicked awesome. Thanks for sharing. :)

        Loading editor
    • I noticed it because I'm working on List of characters in Anne of Ingleside and I compare names from my book and from English original. Yesterday I was reading the part when Cornelia mentioned Cousin Sarah and I saw the word life-like and I memorized it, because it was new word for me. And few hours later I found the same word in your text. : )

  • Miranda DePencier is actually a Toronto-based actress, not French. She went to school and is now back in Toronto.

      Loading editor
    • I didn't add that ... I think LilyLacreag did. Anyway, it's fixed now. :)

        Loading editor
    • No, I didn't do it. I don't know who, but I didn't. I wrote actors to every character, but not to Josie. I write it in this style: Someone portrayed someone in Name of film. Not Miranda is an actress who portrayed Josie...

        Loading editor
    • I think it's because in this  link, it says she lives in Toronto. But she studied in Montreal, a French speaking city of Canada. Also her surname is French. It would be safer to write French Canadian. I'm sure if she studied in a French speaking city, that she at least speaks French (which a lot of Canadians do)

  • Hi, Ginny!

I have only one question about the picture you uploaded here. I found it a few months ago and I wanted to upload it there but I stopped because I wasn't sure it is Anne. I think it it Toby, but this picture is probably from another film where she played. I think it because in the second picture, where are Anne, Matthew and Marilla, there Anne has darker hair. In that new picture, "Anne" had blonde hair (not as dark as in the second picture) and too nice dress for her. I don't know, because I've never seen this film, but are you sure that it is Anne?

    • After a LOT of searching, I discovered the truth! Yeah, I was unsure too.

The picture is not from Anne of Green Gables. It is from a 1956 horror film called "The Bad Seed" (which doesn't star Toby Tarnow as the little girl, but Patty McCormack). The film seems to be much more well known than Anne of Green Gables -- if you look it up on Google, Google Images, Wikipedia, YouTube, etc., you'll find pictures, trailers and more information.

    • So... my feeling was right. Thank you for your searching.

  • I think there's a problem with the online book template. The words don't fit.

      Loading editor
    • Are you looking at the page for the template itself, or the book chapters? Because the words fit on the book chapters, because the page is wider, but not on the template page itself. At least, that's what I see. I hope we're seeing the same thing :)

        Loading editor
    • Why wouldn't they fit on the template?

        Loading editor
    • No idea. I'm still trying to get the hang of all this HTML coding stuff. The easier stuff I know, but when it comes to templates I usually borrow them from other wikis and modify them.
