"I read in a book once that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but I've never been able to believe it. I don't believe a rose would be as nice if it was called a thistle or a skunk-cabbage."
This article is about Owen and Leslie Ford's son. You may be looking for his uncle, Kenneth West.

Kenneth "Ken" Ford was the son of Owen Ford and Leslie West, the brother of Persis Ford, the husband of Rilla Blythe and the father of Gilbert and Rilla Ford.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Kenneth was born in Toronto, Ontario, to Leslie and Owen Ford. His mother named him after her dead brother, Kenneth West. He and his sister Persis were raised in Toronto and every summer they visited their summer home, House of Dreams. Ken befriended Walter and Jem Blythe. He was a thumb-sucker and his mother had an awful time trying to cure him from sucking it.

When he was about three, he and Walter got into a fight over a kitten. The two of them were quarreling near a puncheon bowl that held rainwater. Kenneth was on one side and Walter on the other, holding the kitten. Kenneth reached over and grabbed the kitten. As he was rather strong, he managed to pull both Walter and the kitten into the puncheon bowl. Kenneth then lost his balance and fell into the puncheon bowl as well. Susan came, hauled them out and his mother spanked him.

Another adventure from Kenneth's life happened when he was four. That time he teased Nan until she cried. Susan couldn't figure out a way to stop him and decided a spanking was the only thing that would. After that, Kenneth never teased her.

World War I[]

A few months prior to the World War I, Kenneth had broken his ankle. This hampered his ability to enlist for some time, but eventually he was able to enlist. Prior to leaving, Kenneth visited Rilla and he asked her to wait for him.

"Rilla-my-Rilla, will you promise that you won't let anyone else kiss you until I come back?"

Kenneth survived the war and at the end came back to his Rilla. He had a scar and Rilla didn't recognize him until he said Rilla-My-Rilla.
