Physical appearance[]

Josie has long blonde hair, blue eyes, and a classically beautiful face. She wears dresses and ribbons that are usually purple. Her hair has a beautiful fake curl as her mother curls it every night.

Personality[]

Josie has a cruel personality (because her mother made her like that) and domineering. She is bossy. Josie is the self-proclaimed leader of her group of friends, and she makes most of the decisions, like who the other girls can talk to. However, she is good, only misunderstood because of her mother's upbringing. She told Anne not to talk to Gilbert because Ruby liked him and she didn't like seeing her friend sad. Josie also told Anne about her period when she was going through hers and was comforting. Josie can be cruel at times. Josie constantly bullies Anne, and sometimes Cole Mackenzie, calling them both "monsters". She and Anne in season 3 are great friends. Anne also stood up for her when Billy Andrews sexually abused her, and Josie appeared to forgive her after Anne wrote an article that embarrassed Josie.

Relationships[]

Anne Shirley[]

Josie instantly dislikes Anne Shirley. Most children are unsure of Anne due to their preconceived notions about orphans. Josie is especially jealous of the attention Anne receives from Gilbert. They may not be the closest of friends, but each day they become friendlier to each other.

Billy Andrews[]

Josie was supposedly in love with Billy Andrews. In the season 3 episode, 'The Summit of My Desires', Billy Andrews touches Josie. He keeps saying "Your pretty face" and "Your pretty everything," showing that he most likely just wanted her as a trophy, like most men in the late 19th century. When Josie runs away, rumor has it that Josie 'couldn't wait for the wedding' and that destroyed Josie's reputation and their engagement. At church, when Anne writes about women's equality, Josie storms out. Later, Billy's father decides to cancel the engagement and go to Charolettetown to find someone "suitable for his needs."

Etymology[]

Josie is a short form of the name Josephine, which is a French feminine form of Joseph.
