"Butterflies!" is the 16th episode of Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series.

Summary[]

A hockey match between Avonlea and Carmody is coming up. Gilbert, an excellent player and a fairly good leader, is the team captain. However, he advocates winning at any cost. The adults also get caught up in his obsession for the team to win. By the time the big game begins, the team is fragmented, discouraged and in disarray. Anne helps Gilbert see the importance of good sportsmanship.

  • Hetty King mentions the possibility of winning Lord Stanley's Cup, a trophy awarded to Canada's top-ranking amateur ice hockey club. It was named after its donor, Lord Stanley of Preston who served as the sixth Governor General of Canada (1888–1893). The award is now known as Stanley Cup and is awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoff winner.

Distribution[]

This episode was first released on Volume 2 DVD, along with "The Sleeves". It was later released as part of the DVD box set Volumes 1-3, which includes five other episodes, namely "Babysitter Blues", "One True Friend", "The Sleeves", "The Avonlea Herald" and "Oh, Brother!".
