Behind the scenes[]

  • Anne of Green Gables was aired live as part of the umbrella series Théâtre populaire on Radio-Canada, the French-language equivalent to CBC Folio.
  • Of all the Anne of Green Gables TV and film adaptations made in Canada, this is the only one filmed in French.
  • According to Société Radio-Canada, no copies are housed in either the SRC archives or the National Archives of Canada, making it one of six lost adaptations.
  • A French translation of Anne of Green Gables was not widely available at time of making this film. The Parisian translation was published in 1964 and a French-Canadian translation in 1986. The script for this film was made by Jean Hamelin, who translated the original book and adapted it for the purposes of filming.
